Data
UK invoice finance key figures
From our analysis of the Companies House register of charges. Data as at 2 November 2026. Counts only: the register holds no amounts.
38,267 UK companies have had a charge registered by an invoice finance lender since January 2015, across 49,256 charges. In 2025, invoice finance lenders filed 2.62% of all charges registered at Companies House (5,724 of 218,832). The five lenders that filed the most held 43.8% of those invoice finance charges.

Across every year on the register, 59,776 companies have an invoice finance charge on record (87,398 charges, dated August 1966 to October 2026). These are floors, not totals: we hold 96.9% of registered charges (our count against the charge totals in the Companies House company data file; method), and companies already dissolved are not in the data. They count companies with a charge, not current users. "First on our record" is not the same as first ever funding.

Companies with two or more invoice finance lenders on record
1,206 companies have charges from two or more different invoice finance lenders, none of them recorded as ended. (Source: our analysis of the Companies House register of charges, from the Companies House charges stream and the Companies House company data file) That is 3.4% of the 35,123 companies with an invoice finance charge not recorded as ended, and 2.0% of all 59,776 companies with an invoice finance charge on record.
Where both charges were created since 1 November 2023, the count falls to 164 (1.3% of 12,774). Counting only companies still active on the register gives 944 (3.1% of 30,008).
This does not show that a company uses two lenders at once. Filing that a charge has ended is optional (section 859L of the Companies Act 2006 sets out what happens if a statement is delivered, but does not require one), so an old charge often stays on the register after the facility closes. 21 of the 1,206 rest on two lender names that may be one business after a rename, so the true figure is lower.

How old a company is at its first invoice finance charge
The median company was 4.2 years old when its first invoice finance charge was created, for first charges from January 2015 onward. For first charges in 2025 the median was 4.9 years. About one in five was less than a year old.
| Company age | First charge 2015 onward | First charge in 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Under 1 year | 23.3% | 22.5% |
| 1 to 2 years | 10.8% | 10.0% |
| 2 to 5 years | 20.4% | 17.8% |
| 5 to 10 years | 18.0% | 19.1% |
| 10 to 20 years | 15.5% | 16.7% |
| 20 years or more | 12.0% | 13.8% |
| Median | 4.2 years | 4.9 years |
Out of 32,021 of 32,360 companies (2015 onward) and 3,575 of 3,599 (2025) with a usable incorporation date. Companies dissolved since are not in the register file, so the 2015 group is survivors only and leans older. A business that moved into a new company looks younger than it is.

Share now in liquidation or administration
Of companies still on the register that have ever had an invoice finance charge, 7.8% are in liquidation and 1.2% in administration. That compares with 4.3% and 0.4% for companies with any charge, and 1.9% and 0.1% for all companies. (Source: our analysis of the Companies House register of charges, from the Companies House charges stream and the Companies House company data file; how we measured it.)
| Group | Companies | In liquidation | In administration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Companies that have had an invoice finance charge | 59,231 | 7.8% (4,623) | 1.2% (718) |
| Companies that have had any charge | 831,742 | 4.3% (35,985) | 0.4% (3,654) |
| All companies on the register | 5,711,779 | 1.9% (107,871) | 0.1% (4,276) |
This does not show that invoice finance causes failure. Lenders may take charges at firms already under strain, and older charges give more time to fail. Liquidation includes solvent members' voluntary liquidations. Companies already dissolved are not in the register file, so every rate leaves them out, and the effect may differ between groups. We do not publish a dissolved rate because neither the register file nor our data records dissolution on a like basis.

Lenders entering and leaving, 2022 to 2025
Between 48 and 53 invoice finance lenders filed at least one charge in each year from 2022 to 2025. No lender filed its first charge on our record in 2024 or 2025.
| Year | Lenders with a charge | First charge on record | Last charge on record |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 53 | 3 | 3 |
| 2023 | 50 | 1 | 1 |
| 2024 | 48 | 0 | 1 |
| 2025 | 49 | 0 | 5 |
Out of 69 lenders with a charge since January 2015; activity checked to 30 October 2026. "Last charge on record" means no later charge in our data, not that a lender closed: a small lender may simply file again, so the latest year overstates leavers. Renames merged on our list do not count as leaving. A new lender we have not yet classified would be missed.

Share held by the five biggest filers
In 2025 the five lenders that filed the most invoice finance charges held 43.8% of them (source: our count from the Companies House charge data) (2,508 of 5,724). (Source: our analysis of the Companies House register of charges, from the Companies House charges stream and the Companies House company data file; how we measured it.) On the same lender list, the figure for 2015 is 75.7%. Do not read the two as a trend: the 2015 figure counts only companies that still exist, and this is a share of filings, not of money lent. The lender league table ranks lenders by charges held.

"Not recorded as ended" is not the same as a current facility or a book size: filing that a charge has ended is optional, and lenders differ in how reliably they file it. A high count can mean slow paperwork as much as many clients. These are counts of charges, not money.

What we have not published
- The August 2026 monthly count. Our capture for that month looks incomplete, so it waits for a rescan.
- A year-by-year trend in invoice finance's share of charges. Companies dissolved since 2015 are missing from the data, so an older year is not comparable with 2025.
- A dissolved-company rate, for the reason given above.
- A count of companies moving from one lender to another. Most moves leave no "ended" filing, so the count would be a small and uneven sample.
How we measured it
We hold our own copy of the Companies House register of charges, built from the Companies House API and kept current from the public charges stream. On 2 November 2026 it covered 805,924 of the 831,742 companies with a charge (96.9%) and 3,450,148 of 3,560,414 registered charges (96.9%).
An invoice finance charge is one whose first-named holder (the lender) is on our invoice finance lender list, version 22 October 2026. The list and its name merges are published on the market activity page. Spellings, special purpose vehicles and renamed entities are merged under one lender name. A bank filing charges under its own name for other lending is not counted, because the name does not tell us the product.
"Not recorded as ended" means the charge has no satisfaction filed in our data, including later stream events. Filing that a charge has ended is optional (section 859L of the Companies Act 2006 sets out what happens if a statement is delivered, but does not require one), so this overstates what is still in place. Company status, incorporation date, sector (the first SIC code) and registered office come from the Companies House company file of 1 November 2026. Companies dissolved before that date are not in the file, so older periods count survivors only.
Figures are counts and shares. The register holds no amounts, so nothing here measures money lent. No company is named. Source data is Crown copyright, published by Companies House under the Open Government Licence v3.0; our aggregation is published under CC BY 4.0.
